soho router

So I had to document this some where because it has been something I have wanted to do for quite some time now. I purchased a wireless router to assist in network layout / design (you can really just call this organization. :-) Any way what I bought was a Buffalo WHR-G54S. I really don't care about the wireless side (I don't even use wireless) I just wanted something that I could run embedded linux on ..

So tonight I dug out a switch and fired up the 166mhz laptop .. or is it 133mhz oh well it runs and has a console :-) I read the openwrt wiki again for my hardware. Then set to the task of flashing the WHR-G54S. This worked perfectly. The router rebooted like the docs said and I was able to telnet in and peek around.

I used the fully stripped version of the OS so I could run only what I need. Tomorrow (or later this week) I'll maybe get to add some usefull software to the little thing (pppoe...) and get to some more configuring.

Just think I have never even seen the web interface to a Buffalo wifi router yet.. ;-)
man linux is great (fun)
