Life's Little Hickups

Most all of our close friends and family have heard this by now but, on Jan 11 our first born son Matthew was infact showing the signs of type 1 diabeties and, his own body was coping the best way it knew how. He had an almost unquenchable thirst and was frequently making trips to the bathroom.

Once diagnosed from our Family Practitioner we headed straight to the ER at our local hospital. The ER Dr. told us that we would need to travel to Pitt. Childrens Hospital once Matthew's blood sugar was stabilized a bit. He also said that Matthew did very good by drinking as much water as he did and that this is what keept him from getting more sick.

We were in the Childrens Hospital from Friday night untill Tuesday afternoon. This was an experience in EXTREME patients and frustration.

As parents we were to learn how to modify our family's routine and eating habits to cope with this new discovery. We called grandma to help watch Andrew and Nathan while we tried to focus on learning about how we needed to alter things within our family life. The bigest change would come in the structure of eating around our house.

When Tuesday rolled around everyone was ready to leave the Hospital. We were tired of the schedule and lack of schedule that the Hospital made us keep. Grandma and I along with Andrew were sick of the cafeteria food. All of us just wanted to get back to framiliar teritory and surroundings.

We have returned home now and things are slowly getting in a routine that is manageable. Thankfully we still have grandma around for a bit more. And Melissa is getting a handle on the food stuff.

Thankfully this is an issue that can be delbt with while still leading an active and full life. Change is good and makes us stronger in many ways.
