You never know when something that you think you'll probably _never_ use actually finds a use in your life.
Some years back when my father-in-law was in the early stages of getting rid of stuff before his company paid retirement relocation, I would occasionally be asked if I wanted any of the "stuff" that was in the go pile.
On one of these occasions I was going through a mess of old build your self electronic kits.. Various half finished things or taken apart things etc.
Well of course being the nice son-in-law that I am I said sure I'd weed through this a bit more. I mean how much space can a few transistors and resistors really take up?? I think I weeded about 85% out when I got back to my place and kept the rest.
I think about 6 or 7 years have gone by now, (not sure on that number) and finally I have done something besides move that bag of parts around in my cluttered workshop.
Matthew has really taken an interest in electronics and he loves building circuits from his electronics kits. In one kit there are 3 parts where you can insert your own resistor, transistor, capacitor, etc. He knew what these parts were meant for from the get go.
Matthew has seen the bag of parts and has always been very inquisitive of it .. well over this weekend we were able to pull a select few parts out and make use of them for his enjoyment. And surprise, we knew a bit about what these parts would do thanks to our training with the kits themselves.
